A relief map is provided to show the landscape of the area. Springbok, Kamieskroon, Skilpad & Leliefontein are located in granite koppies. Further south the land changes into the Knersvlakte plain, lying mostly between Bitterfontein and Vanrhynsdorp. Namaqualand is considered to lie between Vanrhynsdorp and Namibia.
North East from Vanrhynsdorp, the road winds up the five mile long Vanrhyns Pass in the Bokkeveld Mountains. A few miles further lies the small town of Nieuwoudtville. Because of the higher elevation and rainfall, this area has a large variety of indigenous flowers that almost always bloom.
