Bitterfontein This page is called Bitterfontein because the town lies at the middle of a stretch of the N7 travelled on one day between Vanrhynsdorp and Kamieskroon. The pictures were taken somewhere along that highway. Much of the road passed through the Knersvlakte, yet many flowers were seen at the side of the road. ![]() |
Bitterfontein,
240 miles from Cape Town, is one of just a few towns in a long stretch
of dry land. In this area, yellow-flowered sheep-bush and others cover
the landscape, while smaller plants include multi-colored Gazanias
and many Mesembryanthemums.
At the Kersbos Flower Park, five miles outside of Bitterfontein, a farmer
has preserved a large area of plants and flowers where tourists are
able to use pathways to view the flowers. |

Since reaching Kamieskroon was the more important task of the day, very few pictures were taken on this road. However just off the side of the road in isolation, the red Anomalesia saccatawas spotted. The great stretches of yellow flowers were made up of a variety of the Grielum genus. |
